Question
Describe the material used as conductors in cable.
Conductor As the name suggests should be able to conduct
electricity with negligible resistance
The properties of such conductor should be
Very low specific resistance
Very high conductivity
Ductile – drawn into wires
Malleable .
Various metals are used for usage as conductors e.g. copper,
aluminium, platinum in some case. All these have good conducting properties.
Usually conductor are made of quenched standard
Copper which may be circular or shaped.
The normal usual voltage on ship is 440V and cables for use
at this voltage are designated 600/1000V – 600V to earth or 1000V between
conductors. Higher voltage need cables rated at 1900/3000V for earthed neutral
system and 3300/3300V for insulated neutral system.
