FUEL SPECIFICATION
"International Standard Organisation ISO 8217 Petrolium Products -Fuels (class F)/' 1987 requirements for 19 grades of marine fuels - Four distillates and ten residual fuels with a density limit of. 991kg/m3 and five residual grades with no density limit.
The requirements for marine distillate fuels and marine residual fuels are given in Table 1 & 2. ISO 8217, 1996 contains requirements on sediment and abrasive particulates (catalytic fines).
CIMAC
CIMAC (International Council on Combustion Engines) has issued a document entitled "Recommendations regarding fuel requirements for diesel engines" which is based on ISO 8217, and include a number of additional characteristics .
FUELCON
"Standard for Marine Fuels Purchasing Contract" - 1995
BIMCO published "A standard Bunker Contract" which clearly laid out procedures responsibilities and liabilities in respect to bunker operation for World wide application. This emphasizes that all marine fuel has to be homogeneous and stable in nature and shall comply to grades nominated by the buyers. Age old notions regarding "merchantibility and fitness" with the single concept of "satisfactory quality" are re-emphasized.
